Dear Diary,
It's the start of a new week. The neighbourhood air is filled with the aroma of fresh coffee as workers begin their day with a fresh brew. School buses are making their rounds around the neighbourhood, picking children up for school, and birds are hopping out of their nests to catch the early worm.
Joining the rest in their morning routine, I make myself a cup of coffee and step out to enjoy it in the backyard before the sun starts warming the air up for the afternoon. Sitting inside the gazebo, I stare out towards the lawn, watching as nature wakes up to greet the new day.
The lawn is shining from the morning dew, flower buds are slowly opening their petals to the feel of the sun, and ants are slowly emerging from their sand domes on the hunt for supplies for the next winter season.
Ah, yes, starting the day like this feels pretty nice. At the corner of my eye, a small gray spider caught my attention. It was walking across the patio towards a flower pot beside my chair. The pot was medium-sized, round, with a geometric square groove pattern decorating the body.
The spider walked up to the bottom edge of the flower pot and, with a cute small hop, turned its body 90 degrees and began walking up the side towards the top. Reaching the top, the little guy walked to the middle of the pot, picked a flower stem and began to climb again.
I lost sight of it for a couple of seconds the leaves were hiding it before it reemerged on one of the larger leaves. It walked towards the leaf's edge at first I thought it chose the spot to enjoy the morning view with me. It began rubbing its back feet together, and in the next moment, it jumped off the leaf it was sitting on. Slowly gliding to the bottom-like Spiderman or, in this case, spider-spider??? When it reached the patio floor, it released its web, did its little hop, and began its climb up the flower pot again. When it reached the top, it chose the same stem to return to where it jumped off. But then it jumped off the again!?
It repeated the same routine at least 4 times before it decided it had enough and scurried off towards the lawn. Probably on the hunt for some breakfast. That's when I realized this little guy was bungee jumping. Not for any other reason but that it could...that's so cool.
